US Military Targeted a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Without Providing Specifics.

Ex-President Trump has stated that US forces targeted a "large facility" in Venezuela recently. Yet, the former president offered no details on the exact purpose or site of the target, and officials have issued no further comment from his team.

Unspecific Comments Made In a Talk Show

"We just eliminated – I'm not sure if you read – they have a large facility, where the vessels originate. Two nights ago, we took it out. So we hit them decisively," Trump allegedly informed GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Significance of a Confirmed Attack

If a US strike were to be verified, it would mark the initial land strike since the US Department of Defense began a buildup of American military presence in the Caribbean region to halt narco-trafficking operations that the former administration claims operate under the orders of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original objective of the force deployment has since morphed into a blockade aimed at hindering the country's oil exports.

Social Media Footage and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks indicated that American military units are ready to expand the operations by striking targets within Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require congressional authorization.

A clip circulated online on 24 December purportedly showed an detonation said to be from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. But, the video or the site in question has not been corroborated.

An administration official reportedly told a news network that the president was describing a narco-trafficking site in his remarks.

Reaction and Ongoing Military Posture

The Maduro government has issued no statement on the event Trump described. Furthermore, there have been no independent reports from Venezuela about it.

The buildup of US military in the region – a stance certain officials have called a naval quarantine – represents the broadest maritime enforcement action of Trump's presidency.

Sources have stopped short from labeling the action as a blockade, but have acknowledged that about 15,000 troops are stationed across the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to uphold current economic sanctions.
